The Sky Has Changed presents a symbolic vision of the destruction of the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps due to climate shift. While not strictly programmatic, this continuous work is divided into four sections that were inspired by the following ideas: the beauty of unmarred ice caps, the inevitable melting, the sea rises, and the unknown aftermath. While I was fascinated by the idea of climate shift even as a child (my father was a coal-fired power plant engineer), it was not until seeing Al Gore’s 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth that I realized that these events were not a part of some far-off dystopian future, but rather something that could change the course of human history within my lifetime. Ever since that time, I have tried to find ways to raise awareness of this issue among my family and friends. The Sky Has Changed is my first attempt as an artist to reach out in a larger way, and it is my hope that at least some listeners will be compelled to research this issue and take a stand with their hearts, minds, and votes.
